噴砂機的工作原理是利用壓縮空氣帶動磨料（或彈丸）噴射到工件表面，對工件表面進行微觀切削或沖擊，以實現(xiàn)對工件的除銹、除漆、除表面雜質，表面強化及各種裝飾性處理。廣泛應用于船舶、飛機、冶金、礦山、鐵路、橋梁、化工、車輛及重型機械工業(yè)制造中各種金屬構件及焊接表面。同時又是對非金屬（玻璃、塑料等）表面，裝飾、雕刻的理想設備。
